David Hale is the Project Manager for Pillbox at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health. Pillbox, an NLM/FDA patient-safety initiative, is creating a platform for innovation by restructuring federal drug label data and exposing it through an API. Citizen, clinician, and developer communities have been partners throughout the process, creating a new model for community/government engagement.
David has also lead work related to semantic and natural language processing of H1N1-related Twitter posts for biosurveillance, determination of public sentiment, and targeted information dissemination. An emerging technology evangelist, David is leading NLM’s entry into various social media channels and exploring the effect of community engagement through social networks on organizational culture.
