This workshop will explore finding open geospatial data for mapping, understanding different file types, creating customized maps, adding social media features to maps, as well as augmented reality possibilities. Examples of building a back-end infrastructure as well as ways to collaborate with co-workers and clients is also featured. An assortment of case studies will be presented showing how mapping various data helps customers, citizens, and government employees work and live better. Presented by Marc Schweigert from the Developer and Platform Evangelism – US Public Sector group at Microsoft, attendees will learn how to build their own maps and embed custom maps in websites.
Marc Schweigert is a Principal Developer Evangelist for Microsoft Corporation, covering the US Public Sector. Marc has 15+ years of experience in the software industry as a developer, architect, consultant and evangelist. In 2004 he joined Microsoft’s Developer and Platform Evangelism team to focus all of his time on the developer community to explore, understand, and implement solutions built on the .NET platform. In addition to his extensive industry experience, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from the Virginia Military Institute. Marc lives in Ashburn, Virginia with his wife of 11+ years and 2 children.
